Ayaan Hirsi Ali, "Danger Woman"

Ayaan Hirsi Ali begint zo langzamerhand wereldberoemd te worden, als ze het al niet is. Nadat een paar dagen geleden de film "Submission" op de Italiaanse televisie werd gebruikt als discussiestuk, heeft nu de Engelse krant The Guardian een stukje over haar op de webstek gezet. De titel luidt "Danger Woman".

"The popular leftwing historian Geert Mak" wordt ook geciteerd, maar de Guardian gelooft hem niet erg: "It is possible that, as Mak puts it, Holland is "a small, provincial country," unable to bear the realities of globalisation, which has used a nasty murder as an excuse to conflate issues of Islam, immigration and security. But the country's problems are far from imaginary."

De aanwezige redactieleden hebben nog nooit van "Dutch-Moroccan artist Rachid Ben Ali, whose work satirises the violence of extremists" gehoord, maar die schijnt ook bedreigd te worden. We zullen onze Volkskrantlezer nog even raadplegen, misschien weet die er meer over.

Hirsi Ali laat weten, dat ze doorgaat met wat ze doet, wat dat dan ook precies mag wezen: "I don't want somebody else to be murdered," she says. "But if I stop doing what I'm doing, it will be like another murder. That's the real trauma, perhaps, the thought of going through what happened to Theo van Gogh again. We told each other we would make part two, and the thing that keeps me going is the thought, 'I have to do it, I have to do it, I have to do it.'"
