Kissing a smoker is not like licking an ashtray

A long time ago I first heard somebody use the expression: "Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray".I never asked myself whether this might be true or what people who said this might mean by it. Not so long ago, however, I heard it again and this time I decided to try it. I was in a bar and I remember starting off by licking an ashtray. After that I wanted to have a go at kissing a smoker, but he obviously didn't like the idea and hit me, right on the nose. What happened next is a bit of a mistery to me, but next morning I woke up in my clothes and didn't know exactly where I was. All I can say is that there is an enormous difference between licking an ashtray and kissing a smoker and that I must have been very drunk at the time.
