Why you shouldn’t discuss racism and Zwarte Piet

  1. Only if you’re racist yourself, you can see anything racist in Zwarte Piet. If you’re not racist, you just see an old guy on a horse (Sinterklaas) accompanied by one or more people in very heavy black makeup (Zwarte Piet or zwarte pieten, depending on the number).
  2. If you open the discussion, this means you think you can, or have to, speak for others. Since the colour of their skin determines who these others are, just opening the discussion means you’re racist yourself.
  3. If somebody else opens the discussion, it means he’s racist. It’s no use discussing racism with a racist.

Next time I’ll show you how to break iron with your hands.
